6 Young Guns Ready To Explode In 2022 Afl Supercoach

Every season we see a handful of younger players jump up a few grades to become elite supercoach picks. Do you agree with the following being on that list?

1. Lachlan Ash ($413,400)

Lachie Ash improved steadily throughout 2021, becoming a regular defender in the GWS side. He has huge upside for Supercoach context too. The half back will gradually get greater license to rebound into attack in 2022, especially if Whitfield has another injury riddled season. He probably starts the year marginally overpriced, and may be more suited in 2023. Worth a look.

2. Jack Lukosius ($438,400)

Delectable foot skills have made the GC defender a target for supercoachers since day one. And the signs have been solid in his first few years, despite maybe not quite reaching the heights as a demigod defender yet. This year he is set to again take all the kick ins and be used as the distributor out back 0 which is great, as the ball is set to live down that way again in 2022 for GC. Tread with caution but consider.

3. Will Day ($345,700)

There are high hopes for Will Day, and it's not surprising as to why. A highly talented, intelligent footballer with elite disposal and decision making skills. Day was unfortunately injured in 2021 which stunted his growth. But don't let that put you off. Coach Mitchell will have Day marked as a major part of his plans for the next 5 years. Reasonably priced, albeit still a fairly risky supercoach selection at this point.

4. Matt Rowell ($342,900)

The wonder child from GC. His stocks were higher than most cryptocurrencies this time last year, with many getting sucked into the Matt Rowell is better than Walker Texas Ranger vortex. However, many are already starting to claim that he has been “Gold Coasted”, i.e. ruined. The Gold Coast factor isn't your worry from a Supercoach perspective though. The concern is his body. Two serious injuries have hampered his career early from what looked like a Judd like start to his journey. Coaches were flocking to him at the 500k mark pre season in 2021. Now priced at $342, surely that represents unmissable value from those same coaches?

5. Sam Draper ($396,400)

The Bombers ruckman with the mullet certainly had a semi breakout year in 2021, although didn't post the Supercoach numbers anywhere close to someone like a Sean Darcy. Set to be on the rise again, you can expect a 10-20% improvement in his scoring in 2022. Whether that is enough to select him remains another question, as better ruck options seem to be in the mix cough Jarrod Witts cough.

6. Jye Caldwell ($266,700)

Another buzz player from the 2021 preseason, the Caldwell flurry basically got shot down by injury before it had a chance to show signs of lift off. This year he starts roughly $100k cheaper than at the start of last year, so if you were keen on him then, it can only be imagined that you are crazy for him in 2022. Will be a popular selection.
