7 Traps To Avoid In Your Starting 2020 Supercoach Team Lineup

Put your feet up and relax. Put all other thoughts to the side. The next few minutes reading could change your team. Dominate your next discussion that revolves around Supercoach traps of 2020.

Supercoach killers

Selection traps are a huge area for consideration when selecting your starting squad.

But what information can you actually believe?

That's what we are here to find out.

What are we referring to when we say "trap"? Well, this is a player who is hyped up to have a gun super coach season, who you pay decent coin for, and flops.

The player will often tease with a monster score and suck you into belief, only to revert to ordinary scores the next few weeks and become the utlimate list clogger.

Make sense? Good. Now we can move on.

All the little bits and pieces from previous seasons can now be passed on.

Most people are astounded that they didn't know certain things about selection traps.

Trends suggest that more and more people are realising that they need to know more about Supercoach players that are traps if they are to have any chance of a successful season.

Player baggage

Picture you are deeply immersed in the world of Supercoach.

What do you associate with selection traps?

Players who have burnt you in the past? Players who you are forced to be stuck with the whole season?

These make you tear your hair out as a coach.

We are going to make this very easy for you.

Start from here.

1: Christian Petracca

Focus on the following - we will start with a big call.

Christian Petracca is a trap. Yes, that may seem controversial given his preseason.

However, stats support the notion that he is indeed a trap. He is likely to be a highly selected player in 2020, but he should be avoided at all costs.

He's past scoring trends suggest he will get a large score occasionally, and then some average scores. Despite spending more time in the midfield in 2020, at $441,300, he can't be trusted.

One down. Who's next.

2: Brodie Smith

A pain in the backside for years. Brodie Smith seems to have all the attributes to be a consistent Supercoach premo again. And yes, he has been in the elite Defenders in Supercoach in some previous seasons.

His long kick, great decision making, loose ball gathering in defence, and penetrating runs through the middle have led to some great scoring patterns in seasons past.

However, those injuries are costly. And his bad games are really bad. Steer clear, his supercoach days are over.

And like that, you are avoiding more selection traps.

With that aspect behind you, this next part will seem simple.

3: James Worpel

Ok - this may seem insane. James Worpel was one of the boom supercoach selections of 2019. Was a cracking pick, and won many their league final.

In 2020 though, two key changes make him a trap.

Firstly, he can only be taken as a midfielder. Last year he was a forward. There are much better midfield options at his price of $527,000.

Secondly, Tom Mitchell has returned. In 2019, Worpel picked up the slack and cashed in on the 130pts up for grabs with the absence of Mitchell. Now with him back, that becomes the opposite. Think 130pts less for Worpel to get a share of.

Player number three is now in the bin.

4: Blake Acres

Blake Acres has a lot of positive key indicators to be a sound pick in 2020.

At $384,400, he's at a new club, he's DPP, and he has proven he can score well at the saints.

Nevertheless, there is too much grey area with Fremantle this year to justify a selection straight up.

He is also a long term injury candidate.

No thanks.

5: Tom Rockliff

Gun of the past, Tom Rockliff is now a massive trap.

Sure he has shown his ability to rack up big tons (even double tons) in the past. His reliability has plummeted though.

He was all the rage last year, and started well, making many good money who sold him at the right price.

But this year it's just safer to stay away altogether.

6: Jake Stringer

As fun as it might be to have a player like Jake Stinger in the team, he's a no go zone.

His score model is terribly inconsistent. One of the most volitile in our ratings.

The $384,600 forward was being touted as a Dustin Martin clone last year, and many coaches drank the cool aid.

Stringer will drive you nuts. Give away free kicks, go missing for quarters / halves, then kick 4 in a quarter to win a game.

Best to save yourself the heartache and not select.

7: Lance Franklin

It hurts us to categoriese Buddy here, but unfortunately he's entered the zone of trap. Constant injury, games where he is negated by team defence, he's no longer the Supercoach superstar he once was.

At $394,300, he will draw some selection from teams due to the name. But the serious coaches out there will not be having a bar of him.

Seeing selection traps from these angles gives you an insight into the complexities of team selection.

And if you have read this far, you clearly have a keen interest in selection trap and want to avoid.

Will this list be vindicated?

And there you have it.

All fears of not knowing anything about selection traps have now passed.

Perhaps you can even begin writing down some further traps you thought of that have arisen as a result of this post.

It's recommended you research other sources of information to ensure you are safe from coach killers.

What will these selection traps serve up this year? Will they prove us wrong?

Will just need to be patient for the time being.

Let's revisit the question in the near future.

Now you can go back to what you were doing.

Last thing to think about.

Let us know your thoughts too.

Keep up the momentum and read one of our other posts.
