The most important element to any team is the ability to generate cash, fast. Often cash cows don't show themselves until after the preseason, but let's take a look at a few that are already causing a ripple.
Mature age recruits always raise the interest of Supercoachers out there. McDonagh would still be pinching himself that he is on the Bombers list. As seen in the past with mature age recruits, they tend to be more match ready than younger draftees (think Nick Duigan). This will likely make him one of the most selected players as a cash cow before the preseason scores are released, and will likely lead to him staying in teams if he pulls something even quarter decent in the preseason. It's a yes.
The number one pick always comes with a higher price than a regular rookie, which means the growth jump is limited if they don't hit higher scores (above 80). However, Horne-Francis looks like he may just slip straight in at AFL level and start pumping out 80+ scores regularly, which would justify his price.
Everyone already feels like they know him already. The claims have been circling for years that he's twice as good as his brother. And his junior stats would support that. However is he ready for Supercoach selection from Day One? That's the big question. If new coach MaCrae is hell bent on blooding youth then it would be hard to leave him out.
Looking every bit likely to fill a small forward role for the Crows right from the beginning. Will be a very popular selection even though he is priced slightly higher for a rookie.
One of the bigger sliders of the draft, Collingwood has hit gold with Draper. Already strong enough to compete with Senior level bodies, Draper is set to be a handy player for the Pies in 2022. Would expect him to debut early making him a potential cash cow lock from the start.
You can already tell that Sinn is going to be a special player. He has that vibe about his character and his talent certainly backs it. Port will be over the moon with their draft jump to snatch the youngster, who is mature minded enough to debut for Port Adelaide from round one.
The Hawks first draft pick will be thrust straight into senior action by coach Mitchell, who will no doubt inflict his sink or swim attitude on his young recruits. Ward fills a void at Hawthorn in regards to it's drafting of a high end talent mid, whereas Clarkson was more set on trading first round picks for underpriced established talent on the market (think O'Meara). Ward has all the gifts that will likely make him a gun Supercoach premium for years to come.
He's back! The excitement machine from the West Coast Eagles finally gets his chance to show more of his trademark skillset that made him a crowd favourite. The good news for us is that he returns at a discount price of $225k. Depending on his fitness levels, it would be hard seeing the WCE leave out one of their beloved premiership stars without giving him every chance to establish himself in the side from the word go.
On the hawks list a while now without many opportunities to show his worth at the top level. Should be the year he gets his extended go, and the word is that Mitchell loves him in the VFL side. Older than a regular rookie and ready for the tough stuff. Keep an eye on him in the preseason.
